Lettuce of all types grows very well in Zone 9 winters. The cool weather helps prevent lettuce from bolting to seed and becoming bitter and woody in flavor.
Sow the seeds now, or transplant seedlings into the ground.
When freezing temperature arrive, most lettuce will need no special care. If there is an extended hard freeze, the leafy greens should be covered with a plant blanket.
