I like to keep my tomato plants well supported so they don’t flop over onto the ground, where moth and rust destroy.
To support the plants, I use 8-foot-tall metal fence posts and pound each post about 12 inches into the ground. This leaves seven feet above ground — ideal for indeterminate tomatoes to reach their potential. It is also a comfortable height for me to reach up to harvest my tomatoes. You will need to provide climbing room according to your own height. You don’t want to let your vining tomatoes go higher than you can reach.
