1. Fall gardens should be planned in the summer – Fall offers quite a few tasty and beautiful crops that can be grown. Planning for a fall garden should start in early summer. Decide where you are going to plant the crops and if they should be planted where current summer crops are growing!
2. If starting your first garden, start small – Gardening takes a few years to get good at it and decades to become great. When first starting it is best to start with a small garden to get used to what is required. A smaller garden offers a greater chance of success and will only ad encouragement to get larger as experience is gained!
3. Buy seeds in Bulk – Most seed sellers offer seed packs in a verity of sizes. The larger the pack the less each seed costs. Buying in bulk saves money, and getting a group to gather to buy seeds reduces cost even more.
4. Trade seeds with local gardeners – There are many types of fruits and vegetables that are climate dependant, and who will know what plants do better in your particular climate than local gardeners. Not only will a seed trade lead to good seeds, but often times and exchange of local knowledge!
5. Soak Beans and Peas overnight before sowing – Beans and Peas will often germinate much faster if soaked in water overnight before sowing. This process can speed up the time from sowing to harvest by a few days!
