Summer Cowpeas Setting Fruit

One of my favorite hot weather crops to grow in my vegetable garden is cowpeas, also known as black eyed peas. This crop will not only grow in the heat of the summer but it will thrive! It is July 5th and here in Central Florida we are experiencing temperatures in the upper 90’s during the day. The heat is on! But the cowpeas love it and are setting fruit! Looking at my 10 plants and each of them already having at least 8 pods already, I am thinking of quite a few recipes that I love in the summer. And if I am lucky enough to have a large enough harvest I will be keeping a few of the dried peas for a later meal in the fall! Cowpeas will continue to set fruit all the way into late fall, so I will be sowing seeds of this amazing pea every two weeks until late august/early September.
