This is the second post in a series called “Starting a Vegetable Garden” – Here is the first post: Starting a Vegetable Garden – Part 1
Starting a vegetable garden takes quite a bit of planning. Have you considered these?
How many hours of sunlight do you get?
Your vegetable packets and seedling pots will say to plant in full sun. But here in Zone 9 “full sun” means six to eight hours of sunlight daily. More sun can burn your plants.
Can you place your garden close to your house?
You don’t want your vegetable garden to be “out of sight, out of mind.” It’s best to plant your garden within sight of your kitchen window so you’ll get in the habit of tending your little patch of land.
Are you close to a water source?
Vegetables generally need 1 inch of water per week. Do you have an outdoor faucet for hoses, or other water supply such as a well or collected rainwater?
