The heat of summer has arrived and many plants in the vegetable garden are adversely affected by it. Green Beans are one of them.
While most verities of green beans are tolerant of warm weather, once the daytime temperatures reach 90 degrees green beans begin to react poorly. The plants will stop growing; the flowers will stop producing pollen and begin to fall off.
Here in Central Florida almost every day in July and August will reach 90 degrees or more. So it is best to sow the seeds very early in spring or very late in summer. Luckily, there are two growing seasons for beans here, so while green beans will not do well in the heat of summer, they will do well in spring and fall!
