For years on end one my family’s favorite foods are Green Beans slow cooked in a crock-pot with onions and garlic. This season I decided to grow some. After a little bit of research I decided on Kentucky Wonder Green Beans.
Kentucky Wonder Green Beans are a vine type bean and they grow VERY fast. From the time they germinated to the time they were reaching above the 5’ tall lattice was less than 2 weeks. And now, they are finally starting to produce some beans!
In the photograph above you can see 3 very young pods. Kentucky Wonder Green Beans are a snap type bean and in short order will be 6-10” long and ready for the crock-pot! Allong with the young pods I also found a flower!
I have read that once these beans start to produce they will keep on producing for a while until it gets too hot. After the heat of late summer disappears they will begin to produce again. For me, that is GREAT. I would love to can some of my own beans if the vines produce to much for us to eat fresh!
