One of my favorite crops to grow in the heat of summer is Okra. Yesterday while walking the garden to take pictures for Photography Friday I noticed that my Okra plants have a few immature flowers developing at the top of each plant.
Once Okra sets fruit it will continue to do so until the first frost shows up. A naturally prolific plant, harvesting Okra encourages the plant set even more fruit. With 3 plants in the garden there will be plenty of Okra to keep us eating fresh throughout the summer and into fall!
My family likes to fry the Okra in a shallow bath of extra virgin olive oil and eat it as a side dish to chicken or beef. It is also very tasty, and a southern favorite, breaded and deep fried!
